Born in the Dominican republic, Jose Anico holds an MFA in painting and drawing from The New York Academy of Art where he was awarded the Eric Fischl Scholarship and Prince of Wales Fellowship, and a BFA from Parsons School of Design, where he gained extensive experience in printmaking, silk screening and lithography. Jose is a figurative artist who integrates conceptual elements such as political, environmental and emotional issues into his subject matter. He's reluctant to explain his work, however, equating it to a comedian having to explain their jokes—something gets lost in the translation. His body of work includes paintings, drawings and sculpture. Over the last 10 years, he's been involved in a variety of group shows and has been teaching in New York, New Jersey and abroad. He works out of his New Jersey studio.
